It is the movie that comic book fans worldwide said could never be made! Watchmen by director Zach (300) Snyder is
scheduled to release on March 6, 2009 and appears to be quite faithful to the source material.
Watchmen is widely considered to be the single greatest super-hero genre story ever crafted. The original 12-issue comic mini series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons was released in the late 80s and is credited with reinventing the way comics are written. If you have not read Watchmen I highly recommend picking up a copy of the trade paperback (recently reported to be the number one selling collection of all time). Personally I think that the best way to experience it for the first time is to read only one chapter at a time (including the background materials) with a break of at least a day or two between chapters. This is not nearly as agonizing as the one month lag time between issues we suffered in the 80s as it was published, and the grueling two-months between issue 11 and 12!
